nFD 70-210mm f4 - Canadian International Air Show

The Canadian International Air Show hit the skies this weekend, and I couldn’t resist heading out with a vintage lens to shoot it. I dusted off the Canon nFD 70-210mm f4 Macro to see how it would handle the action. Now, this lens doesn’t exactly ooze “vintage character,” but what it lacks in quirks, it makes up for in sheer versatility. The zoom range is super handy, and that buttery-smooth focus ring is perfect for chasing jets across the sky. Sure, I racked up a ton of blurry frames at first, but once the muscle memory kicked in, I started nailing my shots. That’s the thing about manual focus lenses, they add an extra layer to the photography process that enhances the experience. Of course, it also makes me appreciate the magic of modern autofocus when I’ve got clients in front of the lens! lol For this show, I paired the 70-210mm with the EOS R5 Mark II, which, let’s be real, loves chewing through batteries. Even with AF turned off and two batteries in the bag, I still ended the day with the second one flashing red. Canon, please, give us stronger batteries!

Note - I don’t know why Squarespace image compression is so bad all of a sudden. Maybe they’ve changed something on the back end. I’ve noticed images are definitely not as crisp as they used to be.
