EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM - Sample Photos

EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM

Tha Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 is an older generation EF mount lens designed for Canon’s APS-C system. It was released in 2014 as a budget friendly ultra-wide angle lens with Image Stabilization. It gave photographers shooting with APS-C a nice wide angle lens and also for those looking to vlog it was a close to perfect vlogging lens. The full frame equivalent of this lens is a 16-29mm making it really useful for vlogging as well as landscapes and cityscape photography. Housed in a completely plastic body also makes it really lightweight for an everyday carry lens. You’ll need an EF to RF adapter to mount it to modern mirrorless cameras and yes the AF works just fine.

The image quality on the EF-S 10-18mm is decent. Center sharpness is good but you can see as you move towards the edges of the frame especially at the wide end images start to look stretched and sharpness is lost. For me personally, I like the old school vibes of this lens. With the right presets you can take advantage of this lens’ flaws and create images that have that old disposable camera look. If you want sharp and clean get a modern lens but if you enjoy the creativity you can get out of old lenses than this is a budget friendly option worth exploring.

Note* One thing worth mentioning is that if you attached this lens to a full frame camera such as the R5 the camera will recognize the EF-S lens and automatically crop in by 1.6X to match the aspect ratio of APS-C.
